The Supreme Being

Olodumare

Olodumare is the supreme, self-existent creator in Yoruba religion, the ultimate source of àṣẹ and of destiny. Where the other Orishas act directly in human affairs, Olodumare remains transcendent, entrusting the running of the cosmos to them while keeping final authority over all creation.

In Yoruba thought, Olodumare stands above all. Every prayer reaches Olodumare in the end, usually carried by the Orishas. The name itself is understood to mean the Almighty, the Owner of all destinies.

Olodumare has no shrines, no priests, and no formal worship. This is not neglect. It is a recognition that the ultimate divine lies beyond what any ritual can hold. The Orishas exist to close that distance, carrying our prayers upward and divine guidance back down.

At the heart of it all is Ori, the personal destiny and inner guidance given to each of us before birth. Olodumare breathes life into a person and assigns that Ori. How faithfully we follow it shapes the course of a life.
